He told me that the 5P was an older printer and there was no software available for MacBook Air to run the 5P printer.

Sorry, I know this question has been posed already, but all the solutions don't seem to work.
When I try to print, it'll sometimes say, "connecting to printer" then it says, "connected to printer" and then "printing" but nothing prints. Or sometimes it just doesn't seem to print at all.
I've installed the latest driver. I've deleted all the printers in my settings, then add it back in. Still no luck.
Suggestions?
Has HP yet figured out how to make its multiple-function Printer/FAX/Scan/Copy machines function with the Mac OS 10.9? Many of us who started out on this help thread months and months ago are still waiting for an answer...if not an HP commitment to resolve the inability to scan or print using HP Photosmart C309 family of machines.
I can print from computer, but can't scan and send to my computer. I have a MAC OSX and the All-in-one printer. Even Apple support couldn't figure this problem out.
My printer cannot connect to my Macbook when trying to scan, also when I access printer settings I only get General and Supply Levels, where did HP utility go and why can't I scan normally? My OS is OS X V 10.9.4 and my printer is an HP Officjet 4632 all in one.
I have a new macbook air.
In the past, I never used to have to go to system preferences to scan things. I always was able to do it straight from my scanner (my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600) by clicking scan and it would show my computer there and scan it directly to my computer. I don't think Apple's operating system supports this scanner anymore because I tried to follow your instructions above and it didn't work. Your instructions are outdated because I did as you wrote, I went to:
preferences > open scanner, but there is absolutely nothing to click that's called 'enable scan to computer,' or anything like that. I can scan from my computer by going to that same place, but it is going to be frustrating if I end up not being able to ever scan from my scanner to my computer anymore. Please help me fix this problem my computer says that HP doesn't Support the new iOS. Anyway, if I've always been scanning by goint to the scanner and clicking scan, why would it be now that I need to click a button to 'enable scan to computer'. I hope you can fix this problem because I've been wasting a lot of time thanks.
someone please tell me how to get my printer out of error state
HI. Downloaded software and prints ok, but how do I scan? How do I get to the controls on my iMAC? Sorry to be so dim.
The solution offered doesn't work for either Acrobat or MSWord...still cannot find the option to print in black. This is VERY FRUSTRATING, as I don't feel like buying a bunch of color cartridges just so I can print a simple b/w word file! HELP!!!!
The download link in this post doesn't work. I went to HP and found a driver...hoped it would then work, but I still can't print a simple word doc using black ink. The machine says I will not be able to print until I replace the yellow cartridge. GRRRRR!
Thank you for the response. My printer is an HP Deskjet 1000 Printer J110a with a model number of VCVRA-1003. There's also a serial number and FPU number. I don't know what relevence the serial number would have but in case you need the FPU number here it is. Also, my computer is a desktop, not a MAC. The operating system is Windows 8.
FPU No: CH340-64001
Regulatory Model No: VCVRA-1003
I replaced the color ink a few months ago but haven't used it much. It has worked since I changed it. This time I just replaced the black and white ink. I've tried switching back to the old ink and it acts just the same. I've disconnected the ink and reconnected it a few times so I'm not sure what the problem is.
The C7200 stopped working over wifi when OS X was updated to Maveriks 10.9.4. The printer is not visible via wireless when attempting to add a new printer. It will connect and print/scan with a USB cable.
I have tried deleting all printers, restarting the computer, and reseting the print system, all to no avail. Apple's support directs me to HP.
The printer works fine with Windows 7 computers and the same wireless network.
Sorry for the long delay - I had to go out of town. I tried the reboot, but the computer still cannot find the scanner. Also, our wireless devices can still not locate the printer. Any other ideas? Thanks.
Also, I went into the Scan 3 software to "browse devices", and it lists nothing there.
That's NOT a solution!!!!
